The interpretation master classes juxtapose the 20th century repertoire with recent creations in an effort to break down historical specializations. These classes offer a special look at a selection of reference works of the mixed music repertoire where the element of sound projection is an integral part of the performance.
Computer-Music Design Workshop
This workshop is intended for 6 composers, sound engineers, or computer-music designers who want to improve their practice of the mixed music repertoire for string quartets. The pieces will be worked on and performed by young string quartet musicians led by Franck Chevalier. The students will be taught by members of the IRCAM team (computer-music designers and sound engineers) and will have a week of training on computer-music design with a particular focus on spatialization and score following. They will have an active part in the performance of the work, from rehearsals to the final concert.
Rendezvous: Final Concert: String Quartets and Computer-Music Desginer Workshops, June 29
Master Class: String Quartet
For this master class, led by Franck Chevalier (Quatuor Diotima) and Josef Klusoñ (Quatuor Pražak), string quartets will study the repertoire composed after 1945, with or without electronics. Participants will work two works, one with each instructor. In addition to works with electronics, Tensio by Philippe Manoury and Spirali by Marco Stroppa, will also be addressed by an IRCAM computer-music designer.

Master Class: Interpretation for a Conducted Ensemble and Chamber Music
The young musicians from the Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie and the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris will join forces under the baton of the Argentinian conductor Emilio Pomàrico for a master class on pieces written by the academy’s guest composers.
The Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie will also have the opportunity of working with the young composers from the composition workshop on orchestra and orchestration, for whom they will perform studies orchestrated (with or without electronics) by the composers.
