Rendezvous: In vivo Théâtre Guy Cassiers, June 30, July 1, 2
Guy Cassiers is considered one of the most innovative theatre-makers in Europe. His personal theatrical language that marries visual technology and his passion for literature is appreciated in his native country and abroad.
For the past few years, from 2006 to 2008, Guy Cassiers has concentrated on his Triptyque du pouvoir on the complex relationships between art, politics, and power. This theme is also present in a new triptych on L’Homme sans qualities, the celebrated novel by Robert Musil. In addition to the visual elements, music always plays an important role in Cassiers’ performances, as seen in the two creations for opera he produced in 2009: House of the Sleeping Beauties (music by Kris Defoort) and Adam in Ballingschap (music by Rob Zuidam).
Guy Cassiers’ growing interest for European political history is also found in projects such as. Sang & roses, le chant de Jeanne et Gilles (2011) that looks at the power and manipulations of the Catholic church and Cœur ténébreux (2011) based on Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness in the colonial past. With productions like SWCHWRM (2010) and Au beau milieu de la nuit Guy Cassiers dares to give a lighter touch to his works.
