Quatuor Diotima

An evening with Diotima at the Bouffes du Nord dedicated to creation. Opening with a work by the young Danish composer Rune Glerup, that, with the addition of clarinet, makes multiple musical references—Stravinsky, Bartók, Boulez—this concert ends with the unsurpassed architecture of Béla Bartók’s 5th string quartet written in 1939. An arch of five movements, each with its own interior symmetry. Form is everything, but expression, which escapes formalism, is not less: Ivan Fedele would not renounce the injunction of Bartók’s work. In this concert of expansive works, the quartet by Stefano Gervasoni is an understatement and an ellipse; the need to talk, but holding back one’s words.
